What is integrative or lifestyle medicine, and how can a Nurse Practitioner help you?

Firstly, I am a nurse. My foundation is in nursing and over the years I have furthered my education, knowledge and skills to become a Nurse Practitioner (NP). This means I have the ability to undertake comprehensive health assessments and examinations, order and interpret investigations (such as blood tests and ultrasounds), undertake clinical procedures, make diagnoses, and prescribe medications similar to that of GP.

What can I expect from my appointment?

First time with us? When your appointment is confirmed, you will be sent a consent form for our service. For initial consultations, you will be also sent a pre-consultation questionnaire that we ask you send back at least two days prior to your appointment.

Can I bring a support person?

Absolutely! We encourage you to bring a support person to your appointment, especially if they are going to be closely involved in helping you to reach your health goals. For those women undergoing a procedure, it is also very encouraged to bring a support person, or someone that can drive you home.

Are there any other costs?

Our fees are inclusive of the consultation, however there may be additional costs for other tests, investigations, prescriptions and supplements not covered by the New Zealand Healthcare System. These will be thoroughly discussed with you at the time of consultation and are dependant on your own health needs.

How many appointments will I need?

Everyone is different and comes to us for a variety of reasons. While some people only require one appointment, some people require several follow up appointments. We will discuss this with you at the time of your consultation.

How do I change my appointment?

We understand that life happens. If you need to change your appointment for any reason, get in touch with us directly through our contact page and we can change the date and time of your appointment provided you have given us the required 48 hours notice.

What happens if I need to be referred to another service?

For some people we work with, we discover that they may need or benefit from referrals to other services. We work collaboratively with a variety of trusted healthcare providers that will provide you with the specialised support you need – such as pelvic physio, psychologists, counsellors, health coaches, gynaecology and fertility specialists. We make the referrals where needed after discussion with you.

Do I need to let my regular GP, or Specialist know that I’ve seen you?

We encourage transparency and open communication with your GP as this ensures that you get the very best care from your wider healthcare team. We will discuss this with you at your consultation as it is up to you how much information that you want to share with them.

Do you offer any funded services?

As much as we would love to provide care for everyone at no cost, we are a private clinic that doesn’t receive any universal funding to offer everyone free or subsidised appointments.
